It can indicate an approximate quantity (similar to 〜くらい), describe the degree to which something is true (often with vivid or hyperbolic expressions), form comparative constructions meaning "nothing is as ~ as," and appear in the progressive pattern 〜ば〜ほど meaning "the more…the more."
